Quit Smoking Pills M
ake it Easier to Quit:
Whoever would have thought that one day a pill to quit smoking would be invented? Yet doctors all over the world are prescribing prescription drugs to people to help wean them off tobacco.  These pills to quit smoking come in tablet form and are taken one to two times a day.

There are two types available: bupropion and varenicline. They go by the brand names Zyban and Chantix respectively. Zyban was the first quit smoking pill to hit the market and Chantix only entered the market in 2006. Zyban is also marketed as Wellbutrin as an anti-depressant.  It was actually people who were taking Wellbutrin for depression who noticed that when they were on this drug they did not feel like smoking.  As this strange side effect became public knowledge the company decided to market it as Zyban as well as Wellbutrin, now marketing it as an aid to help quit smoking.  In essence Wellbutrin and Chantix are the quit smoking pills available to help kick the habit.

How do "Quit Smoking Pills" Work?
The way these pills to quit smoking work are by removing anxiety and tension. People may not feel the urge to smoke while taking these pills to quit smoking.  These quit smoking pills will also alleviate withdrawal symptoms. They do not contain nicotine so they don’t work the same way that nicotine patches or nicotine gum work. Pills to quit smoking do not provide the system with a slow, constant dose of nicotine to work. Rather, they relax a person without the use of nicotine at all so people free themselves from nicotine immediately.  The belief is that the anti-depressant properties of the quit smoking pills remove the need to smoke in order to feel less anxious.

Do Pills to Quit Smoking Actually Work?
Some people have used pills to quit smoking and are still not smoking today.  These people really believe in them. Some controlled studies have shown that there is not that much of a difference in the end with people who have used pills to quit smoking and those who have not used them in terms of not returning to cigarettes after use.  In fact, studies continuously show that those who have the least incidence of returning to smoking after they have quit are those who quit without any aids and without reducing at all, a.k.a. “cold turkey”. They simply never smoke again from one day to the next.  This is group perhaps may be the most determined. But if “cold turkey” gives you the shivers, then taking pills to quit smoking is better than not quitting at all.

Don't Underestimate Willpower
You may have a better chance of kicking the habit for good if you use a combination of strategies.  As well as taking a quit smoking pill, staying focused on the reasons for quitting will help get you through. For example: your health, your family and your friends. You also need to consistently remind yourself of your goal and try relying on your own willpower as well. Willpower, along with a good and safe pill to quit smoking is a winning combination. It will help you become one of the success stories if willpower is concentrated on.
